New Members:
Goju Ryu Karate is not a team sport, the only person that you are competing with is “Yourself”. Students come to us from age 5 to 65. Some come for self-defence, fitness, and others for fun. Each person is treated as an equal and is trained to the best of their own ability and potential. A student is never compared to anyone else. At Parkstone School of Traditional Karate our instructors are there to guide, instruct and motivate you to be the best that you can be.
How fit do you need to be before joining?
Lessons are designed to gradually build physical fitness and allow the student to enjoy the whole experience of learning each new karate technique. You will be surprised at how even just a few months of training can make all the difference to your sense of well being.
What ages are allowed to train?
Junior students 5 to 11 years
Cadet students 11 to 18 years
Adult students 18 years and above
The fact that you are in your middle years should not act as a deterrent to joining, providing you are reasonable fit and of sound body. We currently have students in their fifties. So it is the spirit, not the age, that really matters.
How do I join?
Telephone us now on 01202 568742 or e-mail to arrange a visit with no obligation.
Just come along to the appropriate Monday or Wednesday session and ask for Sensei Andy. You will find us in Guide Hall at 12 Langdon Road, Parkstone. (map). You will be invited to sit at the rear of the dojo and just watch a class to get an idea of what Goju Ryu karate is all about. If you wish to join in the actual lesson, you will need to wear loose clothing such as a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt. Don’t worry about joining in, an instructor will be close at hand to assist you during the warm up and will remain with you for the duration of the lesson. Parents of junior students are welcome to stay and watch the class.
